Construction Jobs
Construction is yet another sector where many fail to realise just how many employment opportunities are available. It can involve building a house to constructing vast transport networks, constantly using the most innovative and modern techniques and materials available.
Civil and structural engineering is a principal branch of construction, and usually involves the construction of railways, highways and tunnels, for example, but also the creation of public health, marine and environmental structures to name but a few.
And remember, it is not only new builds! There is always a demand for the redevelopment of existing structures, which can be both exciting yet challenging.
Naturally, all of these projects require management and surveying (both building and land), not the mention the actual meticulous design and planning if architecture is something you are interested in. Of course, a background in disciplines such as engineering and logistics is invaluable.
Construction jobs are becoming more complex, with construction companies now offering a completely integrated service, from the initial design to the end project, and often beyond, with the planning of a long term strategy for the structure. This means that construction companies are now recruiting from a wide range of disciplines including IT, economics and even catering. It also means that posts in construction are continuously becoming available on all levels, with starting salaries averaging between £12,000 and £30,000.
People who are employed in construction not only enjoy the variety and challenge that the sector offers, but also find the completion of an aesthetically pleasing structure in a safe and sustainable manner very rewarding.
Technical skills are a must in this sector though, and accuracy is imperative. A resourceful attitude and initiative also goes a long way.
