Investment Banking Jobs

If you are mad for maths... Consider Investment Banking Jobs

Up to £70,000 per year can be earned in investment banking jobs, with the average starting salary being around the £35,000 mark. However, entry without a degree or HND is not usually possible.

The key role of the investment banker is to advise companies how to achieve their financial goals. This is often through the completion of mergers and acquisitions, the management/restructuring of debt and the provision of information of how to increase and maximise profitability. Before any transactions are executed, the investment banker will use financial models to predict possible outcomes. Keeping abreast of market conditions is essential in this job in order to identify new opportunities for clients. Risk management is also a key role of an investment banker, who sets limits on capital to be invested by the company or organisation in order to prevent them from over spending.

The Operations department of investment banking ensures that the transactions spearheaded by the investment banker are cleared and settled. It is usual that individual employees will have specific clients to deal with, and there are also supervisory roles available. This is a very lucrative career, with starting wages as high as £35,000 and the potential to earn up to £100,000. As with the majority of banking jobs, although a strictly finance based degree is not essential for this job, it may improve your chances of a successful application. Dedication and decisiveness is essential in this job, on top of excellent numerical and analytical skills.
